One Goddess, Three Faces

The Triple Goddess. Luna/Cynthia, Goddess of the Moon. Hecate, Goddess of Magic and Crossroads. Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt.

Ever heard someone being two-faced? It’s the same with goddess in mythology, except that one I’m thinking of is more “three-faced”.

Also known as the Artemis Triad, this group contains three main goddess: Luna/Cynthia (Goddess of the Moon), Hecate (Goddess of Magic and Crossroads), and Artemis/Diana (Goddess of the Hunt).

Luna/Cynthia was a Titan who was believed to be the personification of the moon. She drives her silver chariot around the sky at night, which symbolizes the moon crossing the sky. Her lover was Endymion, with whom she had fifty children.

Hecate was a goddess who was associated with crossroads, borders, barriers, night, magic, and witchcraft. Ancient peoples usually think of her in the world of sprits or the dead—the Underworld. It was thought that old witches worship her in their rituals.

Finally, Artemis was a patron goddess of the hunt, virginity, wildlife, and the moon. Being one of Zeus’ daughters, she was one of the virgin goddess and is a protector of women and children.

It’s been discovered that this goddess triad aren’t aspects of the same goddess but are worshipped for their similarities. They were very popular in the ancient times as they were important in witchcraft and magic.
